Understanding Homeschool Philosophy

Philosophy

Untitled Document

Welcome to the Homeschool Philosophy Portal of Homeschool Castle!

I am sure most of you are somewhat surprised to be here right now. When I saw you a short while go, some of you were just entering into the Narrow Passage via the Curriculum Portal, some were in the Planning for Homeschooling Portal and others have come in from outside and made this their first entry point into Homeschool Castle.

It does not really matter how you arrived here. What matters, is that you are in the right place!

Philosophy

Whoever wants to access the best that Homeschool Castle has to offer, must get to know the philosophical foundation of Homeschool Castle!

You have already noticed that there are a number of passages entering into this portal but now I want to draw your attention to the fact that there is only one passage that leads out of it.

Let me explain to you what you may expect before we actually enter into this passage:

When we follow the passage out of this portal we will arrive in a huge and very famous chamber - Education Philosophy Chamber.

The educational ideas of many famous educational philosophers can be studied in the various nooks, crannies and alcoves of this chamber.

One of the alcoves in the main chamber is the Homeschool Approaches Alcove This will be our main destination.

In this alcove we will explore the ideas and contributions of educators who have contributed significantly to modern homeschooling theory and practice. Untitled Document

But before we do that, it would be wise to acquaint yourself with the concept of educational essences. This is foundational knowledge and I suggest that you master this concept well before proceeding to the approaches alcove.

There are two articles dealing with this concept.

The first, is a theory article and explains the concept of educational essences.
The second, is an application article and is intended to comfort and support parents who are wondering whether they are able to make a success of their homeschooling endeavor

If you have not explored these yet, I suggest you do it now. I will wait here for you so that we could move together into the very important Approaches Alcove.

Now that you have a good grasp of the concept of educational essences and understand some of its implications for effective homeschooling, we can continue to the Education Philosophy Chamber where we will focus on several specific theoretical approaches to homeschooling.

It is here that you will be challenged to decide which approach you can identify with most strongly.
