The Essence of Homeschooling

Let us home in on the essence of homeschooling!

Parents who are researching the homeschool option do not need

  • zillions of pages of how to's,
  • hundreds of program options
  • thousands of home school advertisements screaming, buy me!.

These things all have their place, but in the beginning of the exploration journey most parents appreciate a simple overview focusing on the essence of homeschooling.

In this introductory overview series I will try to move past much of the 'fluff' and share with you some essential and fundamental concepts that you need to consider as you prepare to move into the nuts and bolts of the homeschooling experience.

The first two articles of this series focus on the universal essences of education in general(article 1) and more specifically as applied to the homeschool situation (article 2).

In Part B of the series the focus changes from the general and universal to the specific. In this case it is a specifically Christian perspective that takes the limelight.

Pastor Reb Bradley, who is himself a homeschooling father, takes an introspective look at his own homeschooling experience and shares with us 7 mistakes that well meaning Christian homeschoolers are prone to make. Secular or non-Christian homeschoolers may not fully identify with the religious emphasis of the opinions in these articles, but may find that the points that are made do, in a very real sense, also address the experience of non-christian homeschoolers.

I would dare to suggest that once you have acquainted yourself with the contents of Part A and Part B of this Overview Series and have spent some quality time contemplating how to integrate the concepts into your homeschooling practice, you are on a firm philosophical foundation and ready to take the next step/s towards establishing your own home school.
