Embassies from around the World

Welcome to the Embassies Portal of Homeschool Castle!
Embassies Portal: Homeschooling has always been a universal phenomenon. From time immemorial families from all countries of the world have homeschooled their children. Public schooling, as it is known today is of relatively recent origin. During the 19th and 20th centuries, however, public schooling rapidly increased in popularity and today it is regarded as the norm whereas homeschooling has become the exception to the norm. During the last quarter of the 20th century homeschooling revived and started to regain some of its lost territory. The revival of homeschooling increased in momentum as certain basic weaknesses of public schooling became more apparent to the public eye. This revival was spearheaded by the work of homeschooling pioneers like Raymond Moore and John Holt and was initially focused on the people of the United States of America. The inherent strength of the homeschooling concept quickly asserted itself and leaped out of the hands of the pioneers and jumped over the geographic boundaries of the United States. Today, homeschooling is practiced on all the continents and in most of the countries of the world. In spite of the rapid growth of the homeschooling movement it remains a fact that many governments and education authorities still frown on homeschooling. In many states legislation is in place to confine homeschooling, and in some cases, even to prohibit its practice. It is for this very reason that Homeschool Castle provides a Portal through which visitors can acquaint themselves with some of the features of homeschooling as it shows itself in different parts and countries of the world. The essentials of homeschooling theory and practice are universal and do not differ from country to country and state to state. These universal essentials are described in the many sections of Homeschool Castle. In the Embassies Section of the Castle the focus is on providing information to country-specific details such as the - legal status of homeschooling in the different countries.
- The names of, and Internet links to, organizations that specialize in country-specific aspects of homeschooling,
- curriculum materials that may have been developed to provide for the needs of homeschoolers in a specific country, and any other
- information that may relate specifically to homeschooling in a particular country
